Probate is an official document granted by the Supreme Court of Victoria, confirming the validity of the deceased’s last Will and authorizing the executor to manage and distribute the estate.
If there is no Will or no executor has been named on the Will, you will instead need to apply for a:

In Victoria, many organizations—including banks, superannuation funds, share registries, nursing accommodation providers, and the Land & Titles Department—require a certified copy of the Grant of Probate before releasing or transferring assets.
You can apply for Probate or Letters of Administration if you:
- Have been appointed as the Executor of a Will;
- If there is no Executor and you are the closest next-of-kin of the deceased who has passed away without a Will.
